March 31, 2025- Basic Sexual Assault Photography

The goal of this 8-hour course is to familiarize the Crime Scene Investigator, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, or other students concerned with forensic or medical photography with photographic techniques that can be used to effectively document injuries and other evidence associated with the investigation of sexual assaults. Basic photography and the mechanics of luminescence especially as they pertain to the location and documentation of evidence in sexual assault cases will also be discussed.

Goals & Objectives

Upon completion of this training, the student will:

  • Describe the basic fundamentals of forensic and injury photography

  • Describe the camera and different settings that can be used to obtain properly exposed and focused images that yield the best results for use in court

  • List body fluids that tend to luminesce when excited with visible light or ultraviolet light

  • List the steps used to photographically document the presence of luminescence

  • Describe why barrier filters are required and how they assist in the visualization of luminescence

  • Describe photographic techniques that can be employed to document luminescence
