This webinar focuses on the two most important tools in cases of child sexual assault—the child forensic interview and the pediatric medical forensic exam. Each tool has its own purpose and both are critical to child sexual assault investigations. The webinar also considers the admissibility of the child hearsay statements to child forensic interviewers and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners under Indiana’s Protected Person Statute (IC 35-37-4-6) and Rules of Evidence. Learning Objectives: 1. Examine the purpose of the child forensic interview and the primary goals of the pediatric medical forensic examination. 2. Recognize the need for each MDT to establish a medical triage procedure in cases where a pediatric medical forensic examination must be performed “without delay.” 3. Compare the admissibility of child hearsay statements to child forensic interviewers and medical providers under current Indiana law.
